Results from independent IT recruitment specialists Cathcart Associates show that the whole group’s annual turnover has reached £6.5 million in the last 12 months. £5.25 million has come from its core recruitment business, £1 million from its renewable energy division and a further £250,000 from its operation in Thailand. The firm has been steadily growing year on year since the business was established in 2009.
It is not just turnover that has been increasing; the group has hired 10 new consultants over the last year as the business expands further in Manchester and the north of England. Manchester has been a key focus area for the business over the last year as the city has witnessed an increase in demand for tech specialists.
Overseas, Cathcart Energy, which focuses on finding talent for the renewable energy industry, opened an office in Sweden and is set to expand to further locations in 2018. The recruitment firm has also added to its client portfolio, growing from 90 companies last year to 119 this year.
Sam Wason, co-founder and director of Cathcart Associates, says: “The IT sector in Scotland, particularly in Edinburgh has experienced real growth in the last 12 months and we have noticed the increase in demand from companies to find the best IT talent for a range of tech roles. This boost has had a positive impact on our business as seen in our results and growth this year.
“We weren’t surprised by the recent news that Edinburgh has become the UK’s fastest growing tech hub in 2017,” he adds. “As IT specialists, we recognise and understand the IT employment landscape in the UK and welcome this growth in tech outside of London. For Edinburgh, this can only be good news as the number of job opportunities in tech and the demand for skilled employees will grow further in 2018.”
