TechEvents.Wales has been launched by Cardiff-based IT recruitment agency Computer Recruiter with the aim of connecting South Wales’ 40,000 strong tech community. The website collects data from event sites such as Meetup.com, Eventbrite and Facebook, and then lists them on the homepage along with the date, location and a link to the event page. Visitors can then find events or meetups in their local area and get more information – all from one place.
Bernard Morgan, co-founder and general manager of Computer Recruiter, said the website is the perfect signpost for anyone wanting to further connect to their digital peers: “The tech sector in Wales is constantly growing and evolving, and as more businesses push more products and services digitally, this is only going to grow further.
“As most industry professionals will know, recruitment is all about relationships and connections, and in that regard, we hope the site will support IT professionals and employers alike,” Morgan adds. “Meetups and similar events are natural networking opportunities where both sides of the recruitment fence can discuss issues, safe in the knowledge they are already at the ‘right-table’, so to speak.”
Morgan says the website will also include a regular blog with write-ups and reviews of tech events, interviews with event organisers, guest posts and advice on setting up and running events so that more people can share their passion for tech in Wales. With dozens already lined-up for February in South Wales, the topics covered by events are broad, ranging from web development, user interface and search engine optimisation to startups and cybersecurity.
Steph Locke from Locke Data, who runs the MSFT Stack and Cardiff R meetups, said the site will make it easier for her events to make a difference to more people: “I’ve been running meet-ups for seven years now and each event makes a difference to at least one person who attends,” said Steph. “Having the events listed in one easy place online will help me reach more people who can get something useful out of my groups. TechEvents.Wales makes it really clear how big our local community is and I expect it will help us make an even bigger difference as a community.”
