APSCo Australia is seeing a significant upswing in growth across all areas of its business, most notably in recruitment and partner membership in 2023. With a busy start to the year, and lots on the agenda, APSCo has reported new members joining the ranks across healthcare and medical, digital, tech, cyber, executive and association, and life sciences sectors.
Partnerships have also been further bolstered with global agreements with the likes of Bullhorn, LinkedIn and People 2.0, and new local insurance partner, Insurance House. The peak body’s renewed emphasis on gaining recognition and seeking a genuine carve-out for professional recruitment markets is gaining momentum, with member support for lobbying and advocacy at an all-time high.
APSCo’s Lesley Horsburgh is preparing for meetings with several Government departments in Canberra in late March, following previous successful discussions with DEWR in late 2022 and more recently Minister O’Connor’s office.
“Given the emphasis on IR and migration reform, particularly at a Federal level, over the last 12 months, it is imperative that we present our position on the need to differentiate professional contractors from more vulnerable contractors in a lot of this reform,” explains Lesley Horsburgh. “We are buoyed by our conversations with Government across the full gamut of legislative change so far and our consultations continue to ensure we support Government objectives, while seeking appropriate exemptions on behalf of our Members. These consultations extend to the ‘employee like’ reforms – providing minimum entitlements to independent contractors – as well as on issues such as migration settings, skills, Labour Hire licensing and changes to current casual conversion laws.
“It is great to see the Productivity Commission picking up our submission suggestions on migration reform and we look forward to the continued positive work by and with the Government in this space,” Horsburgh adds.
Drawing on its strengthened relationships with government, APSCo will host a presentation from Professor Peter Dawkins AO, Interim Director at Jobs and Skills Australia at its annual conference, Emerge, which has become the flagship event for professional recruitment leaders.
The Conference will be held on Thursday May 25 and will once again take residence in one of Sydney’s iconic buildings – this year the Museum of Contemporary Art, for a day of learning and sharing, providing insights across legal and compliance, risk, M&A, Cyber, Tech, AI, the future of work and marketing. The event is being supported by industry suppliers Bullhorn, Platinum WFM, SEEK, Vincere and ims Group.
