New accreditation gives Berry another string to training bow.

Berry Recruitment’s training division – Berry Training Services – gained new accreditation to offer health and safety cards that last for life. The cards are issued by the British Safety Council and the qualifications are specifically for those who work on construction sites.

Already the company’s training centre in Southampton offers Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS) courses, and now provides all-round training. With house building a major plank of all political parties’ manifestos, the sector looks set for an injection of energy.

Courses for the new ‘Level 1 health and safety training in a construction environment’ cards are geared for both those employed by companies and the self-employed. Training is available in multiple languages, which enables the industry to make the most of foreign workers.

With Berry Recruitment having many clients and candidates within the construction sector, the company can ensure those staff it supplies have the necessary qualifications.

“This is a major leap forward for us,” said Lee Gamble, managing director of Berry Recruitment. “We have a dedicated training suite that offers CSCS cards and with this new accreditation we can provide much more. The health and safety cards last for life and don’t have to be updated so it really is an investment worth making.

“We also offer the training during evenings and at weekends so the self-employed won’t miss any work,” he added. “We are also sensitive to the needs of those for whom English is not their first tongue and can train people in all European languages.”

Gamble also said that being a recruiter for the industry the business understands what is required so we can offer the right courses. In addition to this all of the company’s in-house trainers have recruitment experience and are able to offer careers advice. “We can train people and then find them jobs through our construction recruitment service,” said Gamble.
