Does bobcheck fit in or belong in the RecTec ecosystem?

After three years and £1.5million in missed fees, does bobcheck fit in or belong in the rec tech space?

With well over a decade of my career spent in a recruitment agency, I’ve felt I ‘belonged’ for a long time.

Recruitment is a familiar world to me, and I’ve always been passionate about it. Since launching bobcheck, however, I’ve realised that it actually takes a while to feel that sense of belonging.

You can fit in, but do you belong?

Over the past three years, I’ve known that bobcheck ‘fits in’ within the recruitment industry. There’s a clear need for the tool, we’re delivering results for award-winning agencies, and people seem to like what we do.  That’s all great.

But to truly belong takes a bit more.

Disrupting the status quo

We’re all familiar with the term ‘disruptors’ or ‘challenger’, right? Whenever new tech is launched, it’s there to disrupt the industry and shake things up.

This is, obviously, exciting. Problems are there to be solved, and innovative new tech can make an amazing impact in a totally new way. But, by definition, being a ‘disruptor’ leaves you on the outside.

bobcheck was (and still is) a totally new kind of tool – the first of its kind. So I guess we made some waves when we first arrived on the scene. People needed to get used to us, understand our value and figure out whether we belonged in their world of work.

Happily, now, bobcheck is an unquestionable part of many recruitment agencies’ processes.

As one of our customers described it, ‘bobcheck is a no-brainer’; I can’t think of much better praise than that! Rather than a tool that still needs to be welcomed into the mainstream, bobcheck is becoming the norm in smart agencies. (After all, why wouldn’t you use automation to save hours of time and help you recover thousands of pounds?)

There’s more

When I really thought about this subject – and it’s been on my mind for a while – I realised there are a few other indicators that I think we properly belong in this world now, too.

Some of this is down to the people we have on board. I love the connections people build in this incredible industry – and a few very brilliant minds have joined me on this journey. (I won’t embarrass everyone all over again, but I shouted out my co-founders, board members and other key figures in my last post. bobcheck wouldn’t be where we are today without you.)

We’re also building strong relationships with ATS vendors, with APIs with Bullhorn, JobAdder and, soon, Vincere. Again, this has really cemented bobcheck’s position in the recruitment industry.

Finally, there’s the role we play in an agency’s tech. bobcheck isn’t a bolt-on; instead, we slide seamlessly into an organisation’s tech stack.

Combined, these factors all contribute to the sense that, after three years, bobcheck really does belong in the recruitment space.

And that’s a pretty good feeling.

I’d love to know, fellow entrepreneurs and vendors – do you (or when did you) feel like you first really belonged in this industry? And if you don’t yet – why not!?
