Why does a bob happen?

There are a few reasons why bobs occur, but it’s usually down to one of these two scenarios:

1) The client has reconnected with the candidate some time after CV submission. Alternatively, the candidate has reached out to the client themselves (this is less typical, but we’ve seen it happen). Either way, the candidate decides to join – but your agency has not been informed by either party.

2) A recruiter has left your agency and the candidate has since been placed… But nobody has followed up.

In both these examples, you might only discover the bob if you’re proactively keeping tabs on all your sent CVs and candidates.
If you’re not doing this (and, let’s be honest, very few of us have the time we need to do so regularly), there’s a very good chance you’ll never even find out about them – let alone have the time and resource to start recovering the missed fee.
