MRG Appoints Be-IT Founder

Scottish recruitment company Mac Recruit Group (MRG) has appointed technology recruitment entrepreneur Gareth Biggerstaff as Non-Executive Director as the business targets £10 million in annual turnover within the next three years. Biggerstaff, who founded specialist technology recruitment business Be-IT Resourcing in 2013, joins MRG to strengthen its technology recruitment offering and support the group’s wider expansion across the UK and international markets.

Having started his career at Search, Biggerstaff established Be-IT in response to growing demand for specialist technology recruitment services. Under his leadership, the company expanded into IT services, reaching £14 million in annual turnover and employing approximately 25 people before transitioning to its management team through a management buyout in 2023.

His appointment comes as Glasgow-based MRG looks to accelerate growth across its three core recruitment divisions: technology, energy and professional services. With a particular focus on developing MRG’s technology recruitment capability, Biggerstaff will work alongside the leadership team to strengthen its specialist offering, develop client relationships and identify opportunities for expansion.

Founded in 2018 by Tracy Collins and Iain McBride, MRG has established a presence in UK and international recruitment markets. The company has previously been recognised among Europe’s fastest-growing businesses in the Financial Times FT 1000 ranking.

Tracy Collins, Co-Founder and Director of Mac Recruit Group, said: “Gareth brings a wealth of experience in building and scaling recruitment businesses, particularly within the technology sector. Having grown Be-IT into a £14 million business, he understands what it takes to develop specialist teams, build lasting client relationships and achieve sustainable growth.”

She continued: “We have ambitious plans for MRG, with a target of reaching £10 million in annual turnover over the next three years. Strengthening our technology offering is a key part of that strategy, alongside continued investment in our energy and professional services divisions. Gareth’s experience and commercial insight will be invaluable as we work towards those ambitions.”

“MRG has built a strong business with an ambitious leadership team and a clear vision for its future,” said Biggerstaff. “Having spent much of my career developing and growing specialist recruitment businesses, I’m excited by the opportunity to contribute to the next stage of its development.”

He continued: “Technology recruitment is a market I know well, and I see real opportunities to build on MRG’s existing capabilities, strengthen its relationships with clients and support its wider growth plans. The team has already achieved a great deal, and I’m looking forward to working with them as we build towards the next chapter.”
