More than half of hospitality, travel, leisure and retail businesses in the UK lack ethnic diversity at board level according to a new report called ‘Maintaining Momentum’ by the diversity and inclusion community WiTHL. The report has come out is association with WiTHL’s sister organisation Diversity in Retail (DiR) and in partnership with The MBS Group. The study supports previous research revealing that more than a third of retail busi-nesses in the UK have no ethnic diversity at board level.
While progress has been made towards greater diversity in hospitality, travel, leisure, and retail businesses, the ‘Maintaining Momentum’ report illustrates that the pace of change needs to accelerate if we are ever to truly reach gender parity and ethnic representation.
Founder and Chair of WiTHL and DiR, Tea Colaianni, said: “Our research clearly illustrates that while we are making progress, we still have work to do.”
WiHTL is a ‘collaboration community’ devoted to increasing diversity and inclusion across hospitality, travel, leisure, and retail. Its mission is to support companies across these in-dustries to create diverse and inclusive environments and to positively impact five million employees globally by 2025. With a similar directive, DiR works to support companies across the retail industry to create diverse and inclusive environments and positively impact the industry’s one million employees globally.
