Growing Strong

Hays has announced a new 18-month partnership with the charity Trees for Cities in the UK & Ireland. Joining forces with the leading environmental charity means Hays staff across the UK&I have the opportunity to donate hundreds of trees per month to the charity to plant in cities across the UK & Ireland. The partnership also provides staff members the opportunity to use their “Hays Helps” volunteering time to support Trees for Cities projects by planting trees, pruning edible playgrounds in schools, and supporting local community gardens and projects.

So far, nearly 40 Hays staff have taken part in tree planting days as part of the Hays Helps initiative in Blackpool, Hull, Ramsgate, East London, and Edinburgh. The partnership comes after Hays became a carbon neutral business at the end of 2021 and in April 2022 announced that its targets for carbon reduction have been approved by the Science-based Targets initiative (SBTi) – an important milestone in towards its commitment to reach Net Zero.

“We’re really excited to be providing staff across the UK and Ireland with the opportunity to not only take some time out to support a good cause – but to also be doing good for the environment at the same time,” said Karen Young, a director at Hays. “Playing our part to safeguard the natural environment in which we both live and work is one of our key strategic priorities, as part of our Hays Helps global programme of work.”

Under our Hays Helps framework, this new partnership aligns to our commitment to protect the environments where we operate so we can be a more sustainable business going forwards. So far in the new partnership for UK&I we’ve collectively donated 8,000 trees for planting – with plenty more to come!”

In nearly 30 years, with over 1million trees planted, Trees for Cities works throughout the UK and around the world to improve lives by creating greener cities through planting urban trees. A key focus of the project work is educating the community, using a holistic approach to raise awareness about sustainability, social mobility, community cohesion, education, and health initiatives.
