Move over 'new normal' we want a 'better normal'

2020 has certainly been interesting and the future is simply change – uncertainty is the ‘new normal’.

The fact is, we are facing a completely different environment in recruitment than we were expecting at the beginning of this year. The market has flipped. It’s no longer candidate led. Clients are dictating the market and winning new business is the biggest priority for recruiters in order to really battle through, survive and thrive in a post COVID world.

The way we at BlueSky PR see it, is that we are at a stage now where we have what we call ‘return, reset and restart’. Businesses and recruiters are starting to return to the office where possible. And in general, more people are beginning to be taken off of furlough, so, now particularly as we prepare for what 2021 brings, it really is a good time for the world of recruitment to really reset and restart to prepare for a ‘better normal’.

What do we mean by that?

We need to reset what we’re doing, reset our focus and restart our efforts to grow our businesses.  Our current strategies need to be revamped, they need to be much more relevant to the client. And they need to be much more competitive because there are fewer jobs out there and more candidates – how a recruitment agency stands out from the crowd is going to be different than it was at the beginning of this year.

There are a couple of things that are crucial to do now before it’s too late

  1. Rethink your messaging
  2. Make sure your content aligns with your buyer personas
  3. Use thought leadership to your advantage
  4. Measure marketing, social media and BD activities to see what is and isn’t working
  5. Takeaway insights from lockdown and the last recession


This is just a brief overview of the changes that have been happening across the recruitment marketing area over the course of 2020 and where marketing, PR and social media are headed for 2021.
