An Umbrella Company like ePayMe, is a business that is used predominantly by Recruitment Agencies to pay temporary workers. Your umbrella company is your legal employer and will pay you PAYE. However, the work you carry out will be sourced by the Recruitment Agency on a short term and on an assignment by assignment basis.
Before the Recruitment Agency can offer you an assignment, they may ask you to be employed by one of their preferred Umbrella Companies. Many Umbrella Companies are compliant and they should always adhere to the requirements of HMRC, as well as being accredited by a professional body. ePayMe is proud to be accredited by Professional Passport and is a Trusted Partner of APSCo.
As an employee of an Umbrella Company, you have the same employment rights as other employees. You have a right to a written Employment Contract and be paid at least National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage. You are also entitled to holiday pay to ensure you have the option for paid leave, this is included within your Umbrella Pay Rate. Your holiday pay will be deducted from your salary, if retained and you have not chosen to opt out. You are then able to request for it to be issued to you when you would like to take paid leave. We do confirm if you opt out, what amount you should save from your pay, to ensure you have the equivalent statutory paid leave.
One of the most important responsibilities of an Agency is to provide a Key Information Document. By Law (since 6 April 2020), a KID must be provided to new temporary workers who register with them. This document will help you understand the details of your arrangements with the Recruitment Agency and the Umbrella Company and will provide information on:
· Your pay
· Deductions
· Holiday entitlement
· Additional benefits
The KID must provide you with an example pay statement which will show you the deductions that might affect your take home pay. Please note the figures used are only an example and may not reflect your actual pay you receive but they will be reasonable estimates. This is due to Tax Codes, previous pay, Student Loans and other Government Agency Deductions.
BEIS have produced a brand new page on Key Information Documents (KIDs) specifically for agency workers who are paid via Umbrella Companies. Please click here for further information.
