Slight fall in job advertisements recorded by New Zealand’s overall index.

The Jobs Online report form New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has recorded a slight fall in job advertisements for April. Overall, the All Vacancies Index fell slightly by 0.1 per cent.

The report says vacancies decreased in six out of the ten industry groups. Amongst the largest falls were construction and engineering (down 1.1 per cent), with Information Technology and accounting, Human Resources, legal and administration (both down 0.3 per cent).

Analysed by occupation group, vacancies decreased in five out of eight of the groups with the largest decreases for labourers (down 2.0 per cent) and machinery operators and drivers (down 1.6 per cent) occupations.

Vacancies also decreased in two of the five skill levels. The largest decreases were for semi-skilled and unskilled (both down 0.6 per cent).

Regionally four our of ten areas fell over the month, with the biggest decreases in Canterbury (down 0.9 per cent), and Auckland and Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough/West Coast (both down 0.4 per cent).

The Ministry’s figure suggested that despite this fall, over the past year, online vacancies increased by 0.8 per cent.
