That’s a significant number of candidates that your agency could be excluding without the right accessibility features on your recruitment website. UK studies show that candidates with ethnic minority names have to write 1.6 job applications for every 1 written by a candidate with a majority name, and that 20% of BAME employees say discrimination has prevented them from achieving career goals compared to 11% of white employees.

It’s incredibly frustrating that in 2022 we still have to explain the importance of investing in D&I and accessibility in your agency (we encourage you to check out this research by Mckinsey or Hays). The reality is, even for those that do understand its importance, many still don’t know where the barriers exist or how to get started with making positive change.  

Putting it simply, it starts with broadening your perspective and looking at your candidate experience through a wider lens. Don’t design an experience that only people like you could navigate. Understand the barriers that candidates face in the recruitment process as well as how they interact with websites daily.
